TAOS, N.M. (AP) - Officials with the Carson National Forest say they will start selling firewood permits this week.
The sales begin Thursday. The permits, which allow the general public to cut firewood on national forest land, will be good through the end of the year.
Officials say there are rules and regulations that come along with cutting or collecting wood on the northern New Mexico forest.
Under the Carson’s travel management rules, woodcutters can travel off road to remove or retrieve firewood that’s visible from designated roads.
Travel management maps and firewood area maps will be provided with each permit.
The permits cost $20 for five cords.
