LOS LUNAS, N.M. (AP) - The mother of a New Mexico teenager accused of murder has been arrested for not doing enough to help her troubled son.

Albuquerque TV station KRQE reports (https://bit.ly/1rCW7Ms) that 38-year-old Loretta Villalobos has been booked into the Valencia County Detention Center.

She’s being held on suspicion of child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Villalobos’ 15-year-old son is accused of killing 12-year-old Alex Madrid in February and then hiding the body underneath a mattress.

A county grand jury indicted the teen last month on charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Prosecutors plan to try him as an adult.

According to the arrest warrant, Villalobos told investigators she knew her son and Madrid had been breaking into and vandalizing abandoned homes in the Meadow Lake area.
