PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - Michigan Department of Transportation crews plan to begin building a new $5.5 million Port Huron welcome center this week.

The agency says the 7,200-square-foot facility is expected to be completed in early summer of 2015. Traffic along Interstate 94 isn’t expected to be affected during construction.

The Port Huron-area center will be staffed seven days a week May through October, and Mondays through Fridays during the rest of the year.

Restrooms will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
