LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities have identified one of two Clark County jail inmates who died in separate incidents over the weekend.
Clark County coroner’s officials say 57-year-old John Hammel was pronounced dead Sunday at North Vista Hospital, although a cause of death is pending.
Police say Hammel was in an argument with other inmates at the North Valley Complex, was handcuffed by corrections officers and was being escorted out of the cell when he collapsed.
He had been booked into jail on March 16.
Authorities say a 61-year-old male inmate at the Clark County Detention Center collapsed in his cell on Saturday. Police say rescuers responded immediately but were unable to revive him.
The man had been at the jail since April 19.
His name hasn’t been released.
