CHARLESTOWN, R.I. (AP) - A 30-year-old Charlestown man is in the running to be named the nation’s sexiest vegan.

The contest is being put on by the animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Ryan Bate tells The Westerly Sun (https://bit.ly/1fsypST ) he adopted a vegan lifestyle after watching a video about the meat industry.

Bate and his wife own the South County Adventure Boot Camp for Women, a four week outdoor fitness program that offers fitness instruction, nutritional counseling and motivational training.

The group says Bate beat out hundreds of other entrants to become a finalist.

PETA plans to name two men and one woman as the nation’s “Sexiest Vegan Next Door on May 6.” The winners will get a free vacation for two to Maui.
