MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Senate has rejected a move to shift $5 million in business development funding to weatherizing the homes of low-income residents.
Sen. Anthony Pollina offered the amendment, arguing that insulating homes creates jobs, saves spending on fuel and reduces the state’s carbon footprints.
But Democratic Sen. John Rodgers countered that the jobs generated by incentives for businesses can be more beneficial to Vermont.
After nearly an hour of debate, the Senate defeated Pollina’s amendment 23-4.
