VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) - A northwestern Indiana judge will allow a defense lawyer to appeal his decision to allow videotaped testimony from a dead witness to be used in a murder trial.
The Times reports (https://bit.ly/1rG2LDA ) that Porter Superior Court Judge Roger Bradford granted the necessary permission Monday to the attorney representing Dontaye Singletary to appeal his decision to the Indiana Court of Appeals before the trial, which had been set to begin May 12.
Bradford decided last week to allow the videotaped statements by a witness who was later shot to death.
A former jail inmate says the Gary man told him that he had the witness killed.
Singletary was charged in the November 2012 shooting death of Carl Griffith at his Portage home. Authorities say he was hired to kill Griffith.
