BOISE, Idaho (AP) - The Heroes Project has announced it is suspending its planned climb of Mount Everest after an avalanche that killed 16 Sherpa guides.
Boise Marine Charlie Linville had been scheduled to climb the mountain with Tim Medvetz, a guide and a film crew as part of a Heroes Project documentary about injured veterans climbing the tallest peaks on seven continents.
Linville lost his right foot, several fingers and injured his back while defusing a bomb in Afghanistan in 2011.
Heroes Project founder Tim Medvetz issued a statement Monday saying the team made the decision out of respect for those who were killed in the April 18 avalanche and to honor the Sherpas’ decision not to climb this year.
Medvetz says the group plans to resume the climb with Linville next spring.
