ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A Farmington-area man faces a lengthy prison sentence after pleading guilty to federal charges stemming from the death of a 2-year-old child last August.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 31-year-old Jason Yazzie of Fruitland pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque to voluntary manslaughter and assault.
The office says its plea agreement with Yazzie calls for him to be sentenced to 20 to 25 years in prison.
According to the office, the child had been left in Yazzie’s care and that Yazzie acknowledged repeatedly striking the victim’s torso and then throwing the child across the room when he became frustrated.
Yazzie’s sentencing hasn’t been scheduled yet.
