DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Des Moines police have charged a 17-year-old father with first-degree murder in the death of his 4-month-old son.
The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/1kmTvkK ) police on Monday arrested the teen on the murder charge. He also faces a charge of child endangerment resulting in death.
The Associated Press generally does not name juveniles charged with crimes.
If convicted of first-degree murder, the teen could be sentenced to life in prison.
He was charged following the April 22 death of the infant.
The teen was caring for the baby while his mother was running errands. She returned after learning the father had left the home and found the baby unresponsive.
The teen has been held at a juvenile detention facility and will be transferred to the Polk County Jail.
