SALINA, N.Y. (AP) - Police say they’ve charged a 28-year-old Connecticut man in the hit-and-run death of a bicyclist on a Syracuse-area highway.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office says 48-year-old Michael Mahoney of Liverpool was riding a bike on Electronics Parkway in the town of Salina (suh-LY’-nuh) around 2:40 a.m. when he was hit by a car whose driver left the scene.

Deputies say Mahoney was pronounced dead at the scene.

The car that hit Mahoney was found late Sunday morning in the parking lot of an apartment complex. The driver, Chiragkumar Patel of Southington, Conn., was found later Sunday at another location.

Patel was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal incident without reporting. He’s being held in the county jail on $200,000 bail. It couldn’t be determined if he has a lawyer.
