PHOENIX (AP) - Two men have been sentenced to prison for their role in a west Phoenix burglary that turned deadly last year.
Maricopa County prosecutors say Flavio Medina Trujillo received a seven-year prison term Monday while Jose Mejia got a five-year sentence.
They both had pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter.
Authorities say Trujillo and Mejia were among four people who broke into a house in February 2013.
The homeowner entered through his front door, saw that his house had been ransacked and chased the suspects.
The homeowner shot one of them and the 16-year-old boy later died at a Phoenix hospital.
Trujillo and Mejia originally were charged under Arizona’s felony murder rule. It stipulates that individuals can be charged with murder if someone is killed while they’re committing a felony.
