MOSELEY, Va. (AP) - A male giraffe born at the Metro Richmond Zoo has made its public debut.
The unnamed giraffe was released with his mother in a fenced yard for viewing by visitors Friday at the zoo in Chesterfield County.
Scores of onlookers watched the birth of the calf Monday before he was placed in a private building.
Zoo owner Jim Andelin tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1hxNi5j) that the calf appeared nervous at first after being released, then started running circles around the yard.
He says the pair will be placed into a larger yard with other giraffes soon.
