Man convicted in kidnapping of his grandson

LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) - A Divide man has been convicted of helping his son kidnap his grandson from Longmont last year.

The Longmont Times-Call reports (https://tinyurl.com/lt2mpdz ) 73-year-old Ronald Turner was convicted Friday of kidnapping, assault and other counts. He was acquitted of menacing and using a stun gun.

His son, Monty Turner, has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to charges including kidnapping, burglary, and violating custody and protection orders.

Prosecutors say Monty Turner forced his way into his estranged wife’s home, attacked her with pepper spray and a stun gun and took his 3-year-old son Luke. Ronald Turner was accused of listening to police communication to help his son escape.

Luke was recovered safely in Canada, where Monty Turner was arrested.

Ronald Turner faces 4- to 12-year terms on the most serious charges.
