BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - In July, almost nine years after Hurricane Katrina destroyed it, a rebuilt Biloxi Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum is opening at Point Cadet.

The new museum is built on the original site and has a new city park next to it. The park has a pavilion, splash pad, playground and boardwalks along the water.

A grand opening is planned for July 18-20.

“We look forward to getting back to business in our incredible new home in just a few short months,” Robin Krohn David, museum executive director, told The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/1ijZ6JY ).

The new museum is being built on the original site, which now has a new city park next to it.

Walter Bolton, a representative of the architects for the project, said funding from the Federal Emergency Management agency was used to raise the museum to a height of 22 feet.

Bolton said the museum will cost more than $5.3 million.
