DOVER, N.H. (AP) - A mother and four children are safe after escaping a fire at their New Hampshire home, and a 19-year-old neighbor has been charged with setting the fire.

Firefighters say they believe the fire started in the garage attached to the two-story home in Dover on Tuesday night.

Shawn Hoyt was arraigned Wednesday on a charge of arson. Police said they saw him near the scene during the fire. He said in court documents that he had been in the garage and flicked a cigarette.

Hoyt is being held on $100,000 bail. It wasn’t immediately known if he had a lawyer.
