KIRKWOOD, Mo. (AP) - A suburban St. Louis high school has received a $10 million grant to build a swimming pool.
The Earl and Myrtle Walker Foundation announced the donation Wednesday to Kirkwood High School. It will be used to build The Walker Natatorium.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/1psSIUJ ) the Walkers both graduated from Kirkwood High School and have made many previous donations to the school, as well as several other St. Louis-area institutions.
The district plans to begin construction this summer, with the pool opened by the start of the 2015-2016 school year.
The school’s water polo and swimming and diving teams currently use a pool at St. Louis Community College.
Earl Walker was the co-founder of Carr Lane Manufacturing Co. in Shrewsbury, which makes parts used to make tools.
