HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Environmental officials are warning about a high risk for forest fires in Connecticut on Thursday due to dry and windy conditions.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says all open burning permits have been suspended.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for the entire state from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Officials say strong winds combined with low humidity can dry vegetation from the previous winter and make it conducive to fires that can start and spread easily.
