DETROIT (AP) - A man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend whose body was found next to her baby daughter in their Detroit home.

The Wayne County prosecutor’s office says 24-year-old Lorenzo McNeil also is charged with child abuse, child abandonment and larceny.

Charmanek Johnson’s grandmother had not heard from her in several days and contacted police Monday. Officers entered Johnson’s home and found her body. She had been stabbed.

The 8-month-old baby was in a crib. She was treated for dehydration.

McNeil is in custody awaiting his first court appearance. It isn’t known if he has a lawyer yet.

In a statement Thursday, prosecutors say McNeil and the 31-year-old Johnson sometimes lived together in the home. He is not the baby’s father.
