School elections in some New Jersey towns

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - It’s Election Day in some New Jersey towns.

Voters on Wednesday will elect school board members and give up-or-down votes to school property tax levies in 26 New Jersey school districts.

Less than 20 percent of registered voters usually participate in the elections.

School elections were an April staple in New Jersey. But most of the state’s districts have switched to November under a law that lets them avoid up-or-down tax votes. Their tax increases are still subject to a 2 percent cap.
