EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Police in Evansville say an officer shot a man who refused to drop two knives when he was found near the home of a woman he had been previously charged with attacking.

City police Sgt. Jason Cullum says 44-year-old Terry Daugherty was shot once in the upper torso and taken to a hospital for surgery. Cullum says Daugherty’s wound wasn’t considered life threatening.

Officers went to the home on the city’s southeast side Tuesday evening after the woman reported Daugherty had called threatening to attack her again.

Cullum tells the Evansville Courier & Press (https://bit.ly/1i8ofGq ) that Daugherty fled from outside the woman’s home to the driveway of a nearby house where he told the officers they were going to have to shoot him.
