TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - An arrest has been made in a 1999 killing in the Phoenix area.
Tempe police detectives and U.S. marshals on Monday arrested Homer Moore, 42, of Phoenix, on suspicion of first-degree murder in the suffocation of Karam Hussein Jabbar, police Lt. Michael Pooley said.
The 19-year-old victim’s bound body was found in the trunk of a vehicle in a Mesa parking lot. An autopsy determined that his death was due to asphyxia partly due to a plastic bag placed over his head.
The body was found about a week after Jabbar went missing in 1999, and Pooley said it was several years before police determined that the killing resulted from “a drug deal gone bad.”
Moore is a former mixed martial arts fighter who Pooley said was long considered a suspect in the case. He said advances in analysis of cellphone data were among developments that allowed investigators to make an arrest in the case.
Pooley said police are seeking information that would allow them to make additional arrests in the case.
