DEWITT, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a trooper escaped serious injury after a car sideswiped his cruiser while he wrote a traffic ticket along a Syracuse-area highway.
Police say Trooper Todd Madley pulled over a vehicle for speeding early Monday morning on Interstate 690 in the town of DeWitt. Officials say Madley was sitting in his cruiser with his emergency lights activated when his cruiser was struck by a passing car that drifted onto the shoulder.
The trooper was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and released.
The 34-year-old East Syracuse man driving the car was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle, a violation of state’s “move over” law.
