HURLEY, Miss. (AP) - East Central Middle School opened its doors Monday evening for parents and students to get a good look at the state of the art facility.
After three years of planning and construction, Superintendent Barry Amacker says the new $8 million school was desperately needed.
The school is home to 500 seventh- and eighth-grade students. The sixth grade is still housed in the older middle school. The 36,000-square-foot facility has administrative offices, a library, 14 classrooms and new restrooms.
Plans include eventually adding another wing and bringing the 6th graders into the new facility.
The school is decorated in the Hornets’ traditional maroon and grey.
Some of the areas are accented with a unique patterned carpet that, upon a closer look, is made up of the letters of the alphabet.
