GLEN JEAN, W.Va. (AP) - An Illinois-based firefighting crew has joined the effort to contain a wildfire in the New River Gorge National River.

Park ranger Lean Perkowski-Sisk says the 20-person Midewin Interagency Hot Shot Crew worked on Tuesday to build a fire line to keep the fire from spreading. The crew joined National Park Service staff and Mount Hope firefighters.

The Midewin crew is hosted by the Midewin National Trailgrass Prairie in Wilmington, Ill.

The fire was reported Sunday in the Endless Wall area of the gorge. Perkowsi-Sisk says the fire has burned about 130 acres.

The Endless Wall Trail and the Fern Creek and Nuttall parking areas remain closed, along with climbing in the fire’s vicinity.

Perkowski-Sisk says the cause of the fire hasn’t been determined.
