BELLEVLLE, Ill. (AP) - The mother of a teenage girl is suing two southwestern Illinois school districts for an alleged sexual assault in a bathroom during a band competition.

The Belleville News-Democrat (https://bit.ly/1ttq9Gb) reports the lawsuit filed in St. Clair County names Freeburg High School, which the alleged attacker attended with the girl. Also named is O’Fallon Township High School, where the April 2013 band competition was held.

The lawsuit seeks damages from the schools for failing to protect the girl, from the alleged attacker, his parents, a chaperone teacher and Freeburg High’s principal.

Freeburg’s school superintendent, Andrew Lehman, declined to comment about the lawsuit, saying district administrators haven’t reviewed it.

A message left Monday with the O’Fallon School District’s superintendent wasn’t immediately returned.

No charges have been filed in the assault.
