NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Emergency personnel say a toddler’s injuries, sustained when he wandered into the path of the miniature train at New Orleans City Park, were more serious condition than initially reported.
Liz Belcher, a spokeswoman for New Orleans EMS, told NOLA.com ’ The Times-Picayune (https://bit.ly/1mxygzK ) Monday that the 3-year-old boy sustained multiple abrasions to his body and serious lacerations to his legs.
Police had described by injury as a laceration to the leg.
When initially transported to an area hospital, the child was reported in serious condition. It was unclear Monday if he remained hospitalized.
The incident happened Sunday as the train carried riders in a circuit around the park’s south side.
Police, who were called just before 6 p.m., were still investigating the incident. As of Monday, no citations had been issued.
City Park’s Property and Safety manager Erika Hamm and Media manager Amanda Frentz did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
