EVART, Mich. (AP) - State emergency officials say two service centers will open this week in Newaygo and Osceola counties to provide information and resources to residents affected by flooding.

State Emergency Operations Center spokesman Ron Leix (LIKES) says the centers will open Wednesday at two churches, St. Bartholomew in Newaygo and Sacred Heart in Evart. Operation hours will vary.

Department of Human Services staff members will process applications for low-income individuals and families facing hardships or emergencies threatening health and safety.

Crews worked over the weekend to remove dozens of propane tanks floating in the Muskegon River as part of flood-recovery efforts. Floodwaters dislodged them from the riverfront properties.

Gov. Rick Snyder declared a state of disaster last week for the two counties. Numerous homes flooded in the Evart area, forcing evacuations.
