MERIDEN, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter and drunken driving charges in a crash that killed two children in Meriden last year.
WVIT-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1nkOWuy) a judge on Monday sentenced 29-year-old Israel Gonzalez of Meriden to 12 years. He had pleaded guilty in February. After the sentencing, the victims’ family members said justice was not served.
The crash killed 5-year-old Tatiana Cruz and 8-year-old Lorenzo Cruz. The children’s parents and a 12-year-boy in their car also were injured, as was Gonzalez.
Police said Gonzalez’s blood-alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit and his SUV was going 100 miles an hour when it plowed into the family’s car at about 2 a.m. on Nov. 3.
