PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A man accused of shooting a Portland police officer and his canine partner has been released from the hospital.
The Portland Police Bureau says 20-year-old Paul Alan Ropp was booked into jail Saturday on charges of assault, animal abuse, attempted aggravated murder and other crimes.
Police say he was as one of three men involved in a multi-week crime spree that ended Wednesday morning when their vehicle crashed while eluding officers.
Investigators say Ropp ran from the vehicle and an exchange of gunfire followed. Officer Jeffrey Dorn suffered gunshot wounds to his legs and his canine partner Mick died from a bullet wound.
