DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - Heavy rainfall has led to sanitary sewer overflows at some manholes in Dothan.

City officials say that sewage was released into Rock Creek as a result of the overflows during Friday’s steady rain. The problems were at manholes on Cornell Drive and North Englewood Drive in the southeast Alabama city.

The Dothan Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/1mmeRzj) that signs have been posted around Rock Creek, warning residents to avoid the water and the area.

City officials say area residents are urged to avoid physical contact with waters and contaminated areas.
