ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Law enforcement officers are searching for a fugitive who may have been wounded by the U.S. Marshals Service in Albuquerque.
Albuquerque police confirmed Friday evening that federal marshals requested the help of city officers along Central Avenue near the river.
Authorities say federal marshals were serving a warrant on a fugitive when the man pulled out a gun. A federal marshal then fired a shot, but the suspect fled the scene.
Police identify the fugitive as Rufus Phelps and say he’s possibly injured and could be seeking medical treatment.
They say Phelps is considered dangerous.
It’s not immediately clear why he’s being sought by federal authorities.
