MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - New York’s Nassau County says its Department of Social Services has recovered $10 million in fraudulent welfare and Medicaid claims.

According to the agency’s 2013 annual report, it recouped $9.3 million through property and estate liens and $779,000 in restitution payments.

Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/1r4nP4w ) says that the county also saved $1.7 million by detecting Medicaid fraud and stopping payments to those recipients.
