ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) - An investigation continues after a St. Charles police officer shot and killed a man who allegedly came at officers with a gun and a knife.
Officers were called to a home Wednesday night. Police say 52-year-old Martin Brown was threatening people and setting off fireworks.
As officers approached, Brown allegedly threatened them with a handgun and a knife. Authorities say the officers tried to convince the suspect to put down the weapons but he made another threat, then advanced toward the officers.
Police say a stun gun was ineffective. An officer then shot Brown, who was taken to a hospital, where he died. No one else was hurt.
The officer involved in the shooting is a 13-year-veteran. He is on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
