KINGWOOD, W.Va. (AP) - A man convicted of killing a Preston County woman faces life in prison without parole.
Media outlets report that a Preston County Circuit Court jury found 50-year-old Denny Ervin guilty of first-degree murder and wanton endangerment on Thursday. Jurors recommended no mercy, meaning Ervin won’t be eligible for parole.
Prosecutors say Ervin shot Leslie Layman in the back and shoulder with a .22-caliber revolver on May 8, 2012 in woods near her home in Independence.
Sentencing is set for May 30.
Thursday’s verdict followed a seven-day trial.
