TULSA, Okla. (AP) - The family of a Tulsa man who died after a boxing match has settled a civil lawsuit with the church where the event was held.
Relatives of George Clinkscale III filed a lawsuit alleging negligence by Guts Church and its pastors. The lawsuit sought damages above $75,000 and punitive damages.
An attorney for the family, Trevor Henson, tells the Tulsa World (https://bit.ly/1eyjxSA ) the lawsuit has been settled. Henson did not release details of the settlement.
An attorney representing the church didn’t return a call seeking comment Tuesday.
Clinkscale was a former University of Tulsa linebacker and participated in the boxing event in September 2011. The 24-year-old died at a hospital shortly after the fight.
An autopsy found Clinkscale died from “sudden exertional death” resulting from complications from sickle cell trait.
