ROCKINGHAM, Vt. (AP) - After several years of research, officials have approved a plan to construct about 1,200 feet of sidewalk in Saxtons River, Vt., to the village school.
The selectboard in Rockingham approved the blueprints Tuesday.
The Eagle Times reports (https://bit.ly/P4UURh) the sidewalk would be built up School Street toward Saxtons River Elementary School. There also would be a half-oval of walkway in front of the school.
The pathway and three proposed crosswalks are expected to reduce interactions between motorists and pedestrians.
This project is 100 percent funded by a Safe Routes to School federal grant originally applied for in 2009.
