MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island cement truck driver has been convicted of manslaughter and assault for crashing into an overpass and a school bus in 2012, killing the driver.

The Nassau County district attorney’s office says 45-year-old Raymond Ragen, of Mineola, was convicted Wednesday after a three and half week trial.

The jury acquitted him of aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular manslaughter.

The crash in Locust Valley killed Jorge Guevara. It also injured a bus attendant and four special-needs children going home from summer camp.

Police say Ragen’s 13-foot-high truck smashed into a 10-foot railroad underpass then hit the oncoming bus.

His defense attorney had said it was a “tragic accident” and not a crime.

He said Ragan was driving slowly and safely, tried to stop in time, and was not impaired.
