SOUTH HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (AP) - Two Long Island high school students have been suspended for allegedly displaying a Confederate battle flag during a sporting event.

The principal at St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington says the boys walked into a European handball event last week wearing the flag around their shoulders.

The school says a teacher stopped them and escorted them out.

The two seniors were suspended for 10 days.

Newsday (https://bit.ly/1ksIZZN ) says the principal wrote a letter to their parents. He told them that the use of any symbols designed to revive past injustices or to inflame discrimination were completely unacceptable.
