LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A special judge says a Pulaski County judge is eligible for the ballot next month, rejecting an argument that the candidate should be disqualified because of late payment of annual dues.
Circuit Judge Sam Bird ruled in favor of Pulaski County Circuit Judge Tim Fox after a five-hour hearing Monday. Fox is running unopposed for re-election, but his candidacy has been challenged because his law license was suspended for 45 days for late payment of dues.
State law says attorneys must be licensed for six years before they are eligible for a judgeship.
According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1eEehwV ), Bird said Monday that the Arkansas Supreme Court did not intend to treat a suspension for late dues in the same way as a suspension for misconduct.
