HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) - Prosecutors say a northern New Jersey man had inappropriate sexual activity with a 14-year-old female acquaintance.
Darion Benbow of Hackensack faces charges of aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping, child endangerment and providing alcohol to a minor. He was arrested Friday, but the charges were not made public until Tuesday
Bergen County authorities say the 23-year-old Benbow picked up the victim Friday at a supermarket in Rochelle Park and brought her to his apartment. They say he then gave her an alcoholic beverage before engaging in sexual activity against her will.
The victim eventually contacted a friend and was able to leave Benbow’s residence. The victim and her friend then reported the incident to the authorities.
Benbow was being held Tuesday on $400,000 cash bail.
