An Oklahoma gun range is hoping to become the first in its state to be granted a liquor license for those willing to knock back a few after a day of shooting.
The plan for Wilshire Gun, a business slated to open this spring in Oklahoma City, calls for 24 firearm lanes, 10 archery lanes, a simulation room, classrooms and VIP Lounge that will serve food and alcohol, a local Fox News affiliate reported.
“As a group we wanted to build a place, the first one in Oklahoma, where you could go in, shoot, enjoy the retail area and then go to the café,” said co-owner Jeff Swanson.
Mr. Swanson said he understands booze and bullets “don’t mix,” and told the station that a major aspect of the safety plan includes scanning any customer’s license before he or she operates a lane or orders alcohol.
“Once your order a drink your driver’s license is scanned and you are red-flagged and you’re not allowed into any of the shooting facilities either as a spectator and certainly not as a shooter for the remainder of the day,” he said.
Staff will also be trained in field sobriety and use cameras to monitor customers, the station reported.

“I’ve not seen a business that does the firearms that has a liquor license, but it’s possible that if they apply they could be the first one,” said Capt. Brent Fairchild, a spokesman for the ABLE Commission, which grants liquor licenses.
The City Planning Commission approved the plan Thursday by a 7-2 vote, and the Oklahoma City Council will vote on May 27.
