PASADENA, Md. (AP) - Maryland Natural Resources Police say a northern Virginia kayaker was shot as he paddled on an Anne Arundel County creek.

Police say the 56-year-old Reston, Va., man told police he was on Bodkin Creek at dusk Saturday when he saw a bonfire and heard what sounded like a party. That’s when police say the man saw a laser-like red dot on his shirt and felt pain in his abdomen.

The kayaker was unable to make it to shore until Sunday morning and was discovered by a resident. Police say the kayaker was taken to Shock Trauma with an injury that is not thought to be life-threatening.

Police spokeswoman Candy Thomson says investigators have no suspects and the kayaker’s wound isn’t consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot.
