LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) - A state court is handing a Pennsylvania newspaper company a defeat as it tries to determine how much hotel tax is paid by individual facilities in its town.
The Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era reported (https://bit.ly/1qAXj4h ) that Commonwealth Court said Monday that disclosure of the information could let competitors use the details to the detriment of the hotel operators.
A lawyer for Lancaster Newspapers says it hasn’t decided whether to pursue an appeal.
The 5 percent hotel tax, passed by the county commissioners 15 years ago, is linked to room rentals.
Reporter Gil Smart sought the records to determine if the tax revenues match occupancy rates reported by the hotels.
