Brusly Police chief resigns after indictment

BRUSLY, La. (AP) - Police Chief Jamie Whaley says he will step down as Brusly’s (BREW-leez) police chief, effective April 25.

The move comes in the wake of his recent indictment on charges of theft and malfeasance in office.

Whaley told The Advocate (https://bit.ly/1hFgBEr) he would submit his resignation letter to the Secretary of State’s Office later Monday. He was serving his third term as chief of police.

Whaley surrendered to West Baton Rouge Parish authorities Jan. 23 after he was accused of using a town-issued credit card to buy $1,120 in gas for his personal truck and boat.

Whaley faces an arraignment in state district court on May 6.
