PANGUITCH, Utah (AP) - A Payson man and his two sons have been rescued after being stranded three days in a Garfield County canyon.
Wayne County sheriff’s deputies say 35-year-old Jason Knight and his 8- and 11-year-old sons were rescued Saturday in Sandthrax Canyon, a day after they were reported as being overdue.
A helicopter crew spotted the boys on the ledge about noon and a Wayne County team extracted all three by late afternoon.
The father became trapped Wednesday about 350 feet down between tight canyon walls, and told his sons to stay on a ledge atop the canyon 150 yards away.
Deputies say the children survived on little water and a granola bar, and had cramps and were dehydrated when rescued. The father appeared to be fine.
An ambulance that responded to the scene was not needed.
