HAMPTON BAYS, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities on Long Island say a preliminary investigation doesn’t point to criminality after a man was found dead inside a burned pickup truck on a beach.
Southampton Town Police Department Sgt. Michael Burns says a 911 call of a vehicle on fire was made at 12:04 p.m. Saturday. He says after the fire was put out, a man was discovered dead in the driver’s side of the pickup.
Burns says arson squad and homicide detectives have been investigating but don’t believe the man’s death was a result of a criminal act.
The man’s identity and age weren’t immediately released.
Hampton Bays is in Suffolk County and is about 85 miles east of New York City.
