CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - A man charged with the machete killing his parents on the Meskwaki Settlement in central Iowa has pleaded not guilty to federal counts of first-degree murder.

Cedar Rapids television station KCRG reports (https://bit.ly/1evqHHv ) that 25-year-old Gordon Lasley Jr. entered the plea Friday during an appearance in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids. Lasley’s trial has been set for June.

Prosecutors say Lasley killed Gordon Lasley Sr. and Kim Lasley with a machete on Feb. 5 at their home on the Meskwaki Nation Settlement near Tama.

A criminal complaint says Lasley’s girlfriend and brother told police that Lasley admitted to them that he had killed his parents.

If convicted, Lasley faces life in prison.
