MOSS POINT, Miss. (AP) - About $1.4 million has been secured to raise the Dantzler Street bridge over Rhodes Bayou in Moss Point by three feet.

The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/R1p5uK ) the work would accommodate boat traffic head toward the Pascagoula River Audubon Center property.

Dantzler Street is a primary route to Moss Point High School.

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors approved the project earlier this week.

Officials say the funding should cover the estimated $1.1 million construction expense and the cost of moving gas, water and sewer lines.

The $2 million Audubon Center is expected to take about a year to build.

Center director Mark LaSalle says the bridge probably will be completed before the center is open.
