AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say an Augusta teenager has died after being struck by a car while running away from a dog.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says 13-year-old Demonta Collins dashed into traffic on Milledgeville Road as he was running from the dog. He was struck by a 2001 Acura.

Collins was taken to Georgia Regents Hospital, where he was pronounced dead Thursday evening.

The Augusta Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1eggcHF) that the dog’s owner was issued a citation for an alleged violation of Georgia’s leash law.

No charges were filed against the driver.
